I recently got the chance to take to the skies in a microlight with a friend of mine brave enough to risk flying with a camera-wielding gal. Granted, wearing a helmet combined with trying to navigate a good shot is not an easy task and headbutting the pilot mid-flight could prove fatal. Regardless, my nikon-baby got some great shots!
Upon arrival we spotted a full rainbow and even though there was a slight drizzle, I saw it as a good omen. After prancing around in my oversized flight suit in true astronaut style, it was time to get strapped in.
I’m a tiny bit of a speed flirt, so taking off was probably my favourite part. Once we reached a certain height, the view was incredible. Glancing down at all the tiny houses gives you perspective, you get a chance to clear your head and appreciate nature from a different vantage point.
At the first stop, we had some java with like-minded folk before taking to the sky again, this time with company.
Given the chance, I’ll grab at the opportunity to train up and get my own lil flying machine. I was a tad disappointed to be back on the ground though, longing for the freedom I felt up there. Some might call that crazy, but if you don’t live your life with a hint of craziness – what’s the point?
